(Springfield, IL) Governor Rod Blagojevich says he's giving lawmakers two days to close a two-billion-dollar state budget gap. The Governor has issued a two day special session order, for July 9th and 10th. Blagojevich says he expects results quickly. The Governor wants the Illinois House to okay new funding plans, either fund sweeps or a pension refinance, to pay for the new state budget that was supposed to take effect Tuesday. This is the second summer of special budget sessions. Last year lawmakers bickered over a spending plan until August.
