(Chicago, IL) Illinois is one of nine states to reach an agreement with MoneyGram over allegations involving fraudulent telemarketers. The money-wiring service has agreed to pay one-point-one-million dollars for a national consumer awareness program to be coordinated by the AARP Foundation. Attorney General Lisa Madigan says the AARP is involved because money-wiring scams commonly target seniors. MoneyGram has also agreed to post prominent consumer warnings on forms that consumers fill out to wire money. The attorneys general focused on money-wiring services because of the role wire transfers play in many consumer fraud scams.
